Domestic, I Know You, Floor 13

1. I love flying domestic in Japan. It was nice to exchange genuine smiles with the staff attending to security and walk away without being made to feel like a suspicious person who just barely escaped being detained for some obscure reason.

2. Instinctively responding to the sense of familiarity around someone even before you consciously identify them. It’s there, amidst the swirling crowd in baggage claim, that I find my mother.

3. The novelty of having a room on the 13th floor of the hotel. It appears that certain superstitions don’t necessarily cross international boundaries.
