Awesome

With a faint splutter, the television that has been silent all day flickers on. Practiced hands manipulate the remote control and the screen jumps from outrageously-attired talk show hosts to very large men facing one another in a bullish display of strength tempered by surprising grace and speed.

Like clockwork, for fifteen days every other month beginning at four in the afternoon, we bustle about the house with the latest sumo tournament as our backdrop.

Read that again. While we do relatively mundane tasks around our home, we have sumo wrestling rumbling in the background. There’s absolutely nothing unusual about me cooking dinner, dashing into the living room for 30 seconds when Ash calls out “Hey, ::insert sumo wrestler’s name here:: is up!”, briefly discussing the outcome while deciphering the kanji on the screen, going back to our interrupted tasks, and then doing it all over again.

Sumo wrestling. As a part of our normal routine.

How awesome is that?!?
