It Was Bound To Happen

This last week has been tough. For the first time since moving here, it’s with heightened senses that I discover just how keenly I miss living in the states. Nothing specific jumps out as the source of my homesickness, it’s just the little things that come with living in a foreign country that undergo a transformation from quaint oddity to annoying irritation. Then there are the things that have always been an irritation, continue to be an irritation, and will never cease to be an irritation, like our circuit breaker being tripped whenever we have the air-conditioner and microwave running at the same time. The first time it happened, we thought an unfelt earthquake had cut the power lines. It didn’t take long to discover the real source of the problem, thanks to the gas station on the corner that never ceases to crank out its beloved J-pop music short of a true natural disaster.

I suspect it’s culture shock catching up with me, and I know that it was bound to happen sometime. Nevertheless, it’s not the most pleasant place to be.
